Let It Snow!

Lyrics:

Oh the weather outside is frighful
But the fire is so delighful
Since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Man, it doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've brought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in a storm
But if you really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

And the fire is slowly dying
And my dear we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, and snow

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in a storm
But if you really grab me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

Oh the fire is slowly drying
And my dear we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

El viaje de Cloe

This is a book recommendation. It is not a long book. It is easy to read and talks about what science has found related with what we as humans have allways been wondering about.

Just a poem (simplemente un poema)

EL TRABAJO
El trabajo, tú sabes,
no es solo cavar la tierra,
sementarla
y coger los frutos.
No es solo fabricar automóviles,
los barcos,
los trenes y los aviones.
No es solo construir las casas,
abrir carreteras, reparar una escuela.
El trabajo, tú sabes,
no es solo transportar las cosas
y las personas
de aquí para allá,
de allá para acá...
El trabajo, tú sabes,
no es solo dar una lección,
curar a los enfermos,
apagar los incendios.
No es solo descender a una mina,
pescar en alta mar,
remendar tus zapatos.

Can an object fired backward from a vehicle moving forward simply fall to the ground?

¿Puede un balón de fútbol ser lanzado hacia atrás desde un vehículo en marcha y caer perpendicularmente al suelo? Why can it happen? Watch the following video:

The Elements by Theodore Gray, a beautiful book for the start of the new school year (para comenzar el nuevo curso)

This book is like our family picture book of the universe. It is the universal catalog of everything you can drop on your foot, as the author says (nuestro album de fotos familiar del universo).
Poetry and science come together in this book (poesía y ciencia unidas en este libro).

Thales of Miletus

This is Thales, famous for measuring the Great Pyramid of Cheops. Here you have a better picture than the one I drew on the board yesterday:

Save the Aral Sea

The Aral Sea (a saltwater lake in Central Asia) is shrinking. Compare the following photos, from 1989 and 2008.

This is an example of  irresponsible use of water. The rivers that feed the lake are used to irrigate extensive crops.
I took this video from youtube to show you the consequences that our actions may have on our planet.

A diamond is forever

Diamonds are the hardest  mineral in nature. They can cut almost everything. They are made of carbon atoms which have a special crystal shape.
                                                Diamond´s crystal structure

Each black ball represents a carbon atom..This crystallization requires incredible preassure and heat deep within Earth. That is why diamonds are so hard, contrary to pencil carbon made of the same stuff but with a different structure, as you can see in the following picture:

A rough diamond, in the left picture below. This is how diamonds look like when they are found in rocks. Experts must polish diamonds to make them into jewels, like the one in the right picture:

    Yes, a diamond is forever...

A Day Without Chemistry (un día sin química)

Imagine a day without cars, electric lights, TV, telephones, safe food, and water, medicine, clothing, your house, and thousands of other familiar objects that make up modern society. Do it, and you are imagining a day in a world without chemistry.

Volcano film, an incredible volcano (un volcán de "película")

How many unrealistic scenes according to what you know about volcanoes could you find in this movie? (¿cuántas escenas poco realistas de acuerdo con lo que sabes sobre volcanes podrías encontrar en esta película?) Please, pay attention to the volcanic bombs, which explode! (bombas volcánicas, que explotan!), to
volcanic ash, similar to large dandruff (ceniza volcánica, parecida a una gran caspa). What is strange about the lava in this film? (¿Qué hay de extraño acerca de la lava en esta película?)

Wolf ancestor

Miacids are thought to be the ancestors of wolves and any other today´s living carnivorous mammal. They were primitive carnivores and mammals which lived more than 62 millions years ago.

The following image is a Miacid fossil found in Germany:

I asked you to draw what the ancestor of wolf looked like using your imagination. Is it like the pictures above?
